RP's Stuff and Things...

The spot for my online journal entries. Be forwarned that I am a Christian and am the founder of the Christian Paintball Players Association, and I may have to rant now and again. Please keep in mind, though that these are my personal thoughts and opinions, and do not represent "Christianity", The COGOP denomination which I am a member, my local church, or the CPPA.

I post, therefore... well, I posted...

One of my more favorite places to hang out virtually has been taken down recnetly. Sometimes, the posts get repetative and there was always some newbee that felt that they need to bash somone or some religion or philosophy, but that was kept to a minimum by teh great moderators.

years back, I would use the usenet to communicate with people about a couple of my more favorite things to talk about - my relationship with God (Christianity) and also Paintball. seemingly unrelated topics, there were alot of people that had those two things in mind, and thus partly why I began that Christian Paintball Players Association.

The CPPA has a website at www.christianpaintball.com and forums. and ther eis a plethora of paintball related forums on the web.

One site, that focused on user-reviews of everything paintball, has forums as well, and in their off-topic forum was a religion/Philosophy forum. That is the forum that has recently been removed.

While the CPPA has forums, its purpose is to promote Christianity and paintball, and not necessarily discuss other religions. We try to promote unity within the various forms of CHristianity, and so the direction of posts that want to "slam" other denominations and sects within Christianity are quashed by the moderators as much as possible.

Since the CPPA forum is decidedly Christian, there is not much talk of other religions and philosophies, especially when there is so much misunderstanding of those other religions, and alot is because of the "demonization" of them by "christians". Unfortunately that means that the discussions are decidedly biases and usually not very accurate.

I liked the RP (religion/philosophy) forums at the other site becuase we could discuss many other religions and philosophies. the challenge became that there were only a relative few people that actually would discuss those topics, and not just "argue" them, or "bash" people.

So, while new posts were infrequent, there were alot of longly discussed topics. I am not exactly sure why teh administration of the site chose to remove that forum, but I respect their choice and will not second guess that choice. I will merely say that I miss it.

Unfortunately, I have many other forums that I visist every day, or at least "allot" and since the RP forum was really the only one I visited while there, I will not be back to that site, but for the occasional visit as I do with many of the other of the cornucopian paintball related forums on teh web.

I had met some folks virtually, that I will not soon forget, and will wager that one or two will remain in contact with even though we hav enever really met. One of them is an apparent reader of my blogs; so Seidrman (Seithman) - thanks for the extension of virtual friendship and the thought provoking posts and discussions. I also wnat to thank Pete for his ability to discuss the topic of evolution at a level that I consider on par with none-else.

So, while I have chosed to say good by to that particular forum, if you knwo where it is that I speak - I encourage you to stay if it is a forum that you would otherwise post or wnat to visit about paintball stuff and things.

and as I made in my last post at that site in their user feedback area when I discovered the removal of the RP forum; thanks for the fish, don't watch too much TV, and watch out for the mice.

Well said. And thanks for the kind words about me. And just to make it clear for your other readers, Seidrman/Seithman signs his comments on your blog with his real name, Jarred. ;)

I'm half tempted to set up a free-standing forum on my site for the discussion of religion and philosophy, just to see if we can keep most of the old PBR crowd together. That or using EZboard (not sure I want to use my site's monthly bandwidth on such a forum). But then I ask myself, do I really want the hassle?

I have had the same thoughts as both of you. I do believe its too much a hassle and I doubt seriously we could have the same traffic PBR had. That may be good in some ways, but a drag in others. I will sorely miss the forums, and many that were involved. Some of my favorite people will most likely not be at the CPPA, like butterknife. Others I expect to continue to see, although less often I would imagine, such as you Seith/Jared. Bad decision I believe to take it down. Best posters on that forum were there. And they obviously lost two of them that posted here before me.
